mr. A.H.M. (Arjan) van den Steenhoven studied Dutch law at Leiden University, majoring in civil law, and has been a lawyer since 1996. He was a member of the Salomons Van der Valk Advocaten partnership from 1 January 2005 and has been a partner at Salomons Beelaerts Advocaten since 1 January 2020. He previously worked for the Maaldrink Buren advocaten, notarissen en belastingadviseurs law firm in The Hague (later renamed Maaldrink Vermeulen Grooss).
Arjan has specialised in the fields of civil law cassation, procedural law and company law. He is a member of the Association of Civil Cassation Lawyers (Vereniging van Civiele Cassatieadvocaten), the Dutch Procedural Law Association (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Procesrecht), the Dutch Civil Law Association (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Burgerlijk Recht) and the Dutch Arbitration Association (DAA). He is also a co-author of SDU Commentaar Burgerlijk Procesrecht, a book of commentary on the Dutch Code of Civil procedure published by SDU publishers (the former official publisher of Dutch governmental publications) and a member of the editorial board of the Journal for Litigation Practice (Tijdschrift voor de Procespraktijk).
As a lawyer at the Supreme Court, Arjan handles a very wide range of civil cases in cassation, in fields including contract law, property law, pension law, personal and family law, inheritance law, labour law, property law, tenancy law and company law.
He also handles cassation proceedings relating to (investment) arbitration, such as annulment and revocation proceedings and permission to enforce (exequatur) proceedings. In that regard, he has handled some of the largest and most complex cases in the Dutch legal field.
As a 'lawyer’s lawyer', Arjan also observes in appeal cases and advises the lawyers concerned on the merits of the appeal proceedings.
He acts for private individuals, companies, banks, sectoral pension funds and sovereign states.
Arjan has recorded the following primary (and sub-)fields of law in the legal fields register of the Netherlands Bar:

On the basis of this registration, he is required to obtain ten training points per calendar year in each registered primary field of law, in accordance with the standards of the Netherlands Bar.
