Criminal law
Salomons Beelaerts Advocaten has broad experience and extensive expertise in the field of criminal law.
We advise both natural persons and legal entities and support them through all phases of criminal proceedings. If necessary, we also provide advice before these proceedings. This can be particularly important in complex cases and in cases of a financial and economic nature.
We act in both smaller criminal cases and in 'mega-cases'. Cases commonly relate to matters including drugs, murder/manslaughter, vice, human trafficking, fraud, forgery, scamming, participation in a criminal organisation, violence, theft and embezzlement. We also act in cases involving youth crime, extradition and surrender and preventive custody.
In addition to paid cases, we also handle subsidised cases in which, depending on your financial capacity, you may qualify for legal aid from the state (apart from a personal contribution).
What if you are arrested?
If you are arrested by the police, you will face many challenges. It is then essential that you receive support from a good criminal lawyer as soon as possible.
After your arrest, you are entitled to full legal aid for the first police interview. The police can assign you a duty lawyer, but you may also choose a lawyer who you know to be specialised in criminal law, free of charge. You can then be certain that you will receive good advice in this crucial phase of the criminal proceedings. The lawyer will discuss the case with you and explain your rights and obligations, and will give you detailed advice on your case prior to the interview.
You are also entitled to the support of a lawyer during the police interview.
Our advice is that you should never enter into substantive discussions with the police and never give permission for further investigation until you have consulted a lawyer.
